CANDIDATE FILINGS NOTED

Steve Menser, Center Township resident and IBEW official, has announced his candidacy for County Commissioner.  He hopes to defeat Republican incumbent Derrick Towle.  Steve is busy forming his campaign team and expects to mount a vigorous run for election.  Steve cites the Commissioners’ role in the recent courthouse scandal as a major reason for taking on the incumbent.  Steve’s assertion that Commissioner Towle was “asleep at the wheel” has been borne out by the Court’s dropping of nine of the twenty-one charges against Republican Auditor Linda Grass.  Because the Commissioners passed their lawful duties upon the disgraced Auditor, those nine charges would not hold up in Court.  The Commissioners had no lawful means, nor legitimate reason to give their duties to anyone else.  Steve claims such misfeasance of office is unforgivable.  Any one wishing to help Steve on his campaign may volunteer by contacting him at 250-0886.

Dr. Nasser Hanna, a Marion County oncologist, has filed for the 5th District Congressional race.  Dr. Hanna comes from a family known for their dedicated service to the community.  He and his wife created a nonprofit service organization.  Dr. Hanna voluntarily gives us his time one day a week at the Veteran’s Hospital to serve veterans with their medical needs.  Dr. Hanna has received the endorsement of the Indiana Democratic Party, the first such endorsement in the 5th District in a number of years.  That says a lot about the quality of the candidate.

A number of local Democrats have answered Chairman Adkins call to public service by running for office at Township level.  Mr. Adkins said he is pleased with the number of people filing and reminds Democrats that there are still open slots for Township Board races.  Anyone wishing to serve can contact Mr. Adkinsat 462-4095 or pick up filing forms at the Election Office on the second floor of the Courthouse.  The filing deadline is February 19th.
