The Hancock County Democratic Party has a long, illustrious history. The first official emblem of the Democratic Party was created in Greenfield in the 1840s and we still proudly use the Rooster as our emblem today. It was not until the late 1960s that the Hancock County Democratic Party began to wane. This occurred after a large migration of Republican voters into western Hancock County from Indianapolis. But the Democratic Party is being reborn in Hancock County. Party officials are working to rebuild the Party from the ground up as more and more Democratic leaning voters are moving into the county. The resurgence of Democratic voters was seen in the 2008 Indiana Primary wherein the Democratic ballots easily exceeded those of the GOP.
